On 16 September 2026, H.E. Ms. Warunee Pan-krajang, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Sultanate of Oman, chaired the 57th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Muscat (ACM), which was the second meeting held during Thailand’s Chairmanship of the ACM for the second half of 2026 (July–December 2026).

The Meeting reviewed the implementation of the ACM’s planned activities. Two out of the five activities had been completed, namely: (1) the publication of an article and a video highlighting the role and potential of ASEAN and its Member States, including Thailand, in relation to the world, the Middle East region, and cooperation with all sectors of Oman, particularly the business community and the Omani people, with a view to promoting greater interaction with the local community in Oman on the occasion of the 59th ASEAN Day on 8 August 2026. The English-language article was published in the Oman Observer  https://www.omanobserver.om/pdf/2026/08/09/omandailyobserver-20260809-2.pdf?ts=124259 , while the Arabic-language article was published on the Al Watan website https://alwatan.om/article/45168 ; and (2) a meeting between Ambassadors and Chargés d’Affaires of the six ASEAN Member States in Muscat and senior officials of Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology to learn about Oman’s logistics development plans and connectivity with countries in the region, particularly in the context of the current geopolitical situation affecting the Strait of Hormuz. Oman’s strategic location provides potential alternative trade and logistics routes for ASEAN.

The Meeting also discussed progress on the remaining three activities scheduled for October–December 2026, namely: (3) consultations with the Omani Foreign Ministry on ways to promote further interaction and cooperation following the participation of the Foreign Minister of Oman in the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) on 24 July 2026 in Manila; (4) a visit and meeting with senior executives of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), as well as a visit to Mina Al Fahal, Oman’s main oil export terminal; and (5) activities to strengthen relations among the ASEAN community in Oman, including a friendly football match among ASEAN youth in Muscat.

The Meeting also exchanged views on regional developments and the protection of ASEAN nationals.

Ambassador Warunee also briefed the Meeting on Thailand’s efforts concerning issues related to Cambodia as well as Thailand’s role in promoting peace and stability in Myanmar under the ASEAN framework.

Following the Meeting, Ambassador Warunee hosted a  luncheon of Thai cuisine for the Ambassadors, Chargés d’Affaires and Working Group of ACM and H.E. Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Mohamed Al Hosni, Head of Asia and Pacific Department, and official from the Omani Foreign Ministry. Her Excellency took this opportunity to express appreciation for their cooperation in promoting Thailand–Oman and ASEAN–Oman relations, particularly during Thailand’s Chairmanship of the ACM, as well as to bid farewell as she will complete her tenure on 30 September 2026.
